Nigerian Tradition: What is Olojo Festival?

What is Olojo Festival?

The celebration and life of "Ogun" a.k.a 'God of Iron" is called Olojo Festival.

This Festival holds annually at Ile-Ife in Osun State Nigeria. The Yoruba indigenes believed Ogun is the first son of Oduduwa hence, choose this day to remember and celebrate about him.
The cultural event holds around October. Before the event, The Ooni of Ife will go away for seven days to fast and pray in the ways of the ancestors.

After the seven days, He will appear to the public with the Aare crown which is told and believed to be the original Oduduwa crown and this will be used to lead the chief and priest to perform their rites at the Ogun shrine.

The Ooni and his chiefs will visit the other shrines to offer prayers and peace for the nation and humanity. Each chief dance to the traditional drum differently only Ooni can dance the Osirigi dance.
