Nigerian Tradition: The Title of "Aare Ona Kakanfo".

Aare Ona Kakanfo.

Aare Ona kakanfo is a very sensitive title and position in Yorubaland which was introduced by King Alaafin Ajabo over 700 years ago. The kakanfo title is given to the war general (generalissimo) around the time of the old Oyo Empire to help train and mobilize soldiers for battles.

Kakanfo also has others commanders with their personal army forces under the, to help watch and protect the people during war or siege.
Alaafin is the only ruler in Yoruba monarchy who can authorize and bestow the power of  "Aare Ona Kankafo" title. You must be a great, strong and courageous warrior to qualify for the post.

The Aare Ona Kakanfo never lose any battle due to the invincible and spiritual power they possess after their inoculation to the throne, and they are never allowed to live in the same town with the Alaafin due to the power they already possess.

Kakanfo is comparable with the title of Field-Marshal.
