Ojo Aje Festival

Ojo Aje Festival

"Ojo Aje" festival is an annual festival that holds on Mondays in Yoruba tradition. The Aje is a deity in charge of wealth accumulation and economic prosperity. Aje meaning wealth is an important prayer and desire by the Yoruba's to the Yoruba goddess of affluence and fertility.
The festival leads thousands of Ife indigenes all across the globe to celebrate the occasion. It also attracts some Brazilians the chance to trace their roots back to Ile Ife, their motherland.

The festival attendees would come with their white pigeons with each serving as purity that will be released to the air after the prayer and consultation have been made by the natural ruler of  Yoruba race at the "Aje" Shrine which is known as "Idi Aje".

The Aje shrine consists of a big clean white bowl, the bowl has several items with most symbolizing wealth and they are Owo Eyo (Cowries money), Awo, gold ornaments, Irukere etc.
