Waist bead is now trending in the Nigerian fashion,
even though it has been said to originate from the south-western part of Nigeria
(Yoruba tribe). These fashion ornaments have found their way to the hearts of many
Nigerian ladies, irrespective of tribe.
The waist bead is called (Ileke Idi) by the Yorubas. It signifies fertility and intimate appeal. it is also sometimes an heirloom
which is passed from a mother to daughter during rites of passage.
What do you call it in your language and do you wear waist beads?
