Ilorin Kingship.
Ilorin is a traditional state in the Kwara state Nigeria. The city is populated mostly by the Yoruba speaking people. They are known by some people as copy-cats of the Hausa Kingdoms.
In the 19th century, Ilorin was the headquarter for the Oyo General Afonja kingdom, who later rebelled against Alaafin Aole of Oyo Empire. He was assisted by Shehu Alimi ((leader of the Fulani) who just arrived Ilorin at that time with his tribesmen to help destroy and bring down the old Oyo empire.
After the death of Sheu Alimi, Afonja was shot by an arrow which stayed on him till his last breath in 1824. He was shot by Alimi's son (Abdulsalam) due to greedy urge for power to rule. Abdulsalam ascended the throne as the Emir of Ilorin and made a pledge of allegiance to Sokoto Caliphate. This made the monarch of Ilorin till date holds the title of Emir instead of Oba.
