Nigerian Hairstyle: Box Braids or Knotless Braids?

 Box Braids or Knotless Braids?

Knotless braids are the new go-to braids to do, but what’s the actual difference between regular braids and Knotless braids?
With Box braids and Knotless braids, your hair is divided into boxes or triangles depending on your preferred style. Unlike box braids where the root starts with a small knot to start the braid, Knotless braids use a different technique. Knotless braids are created using a feed-in technique. It’s the process of adding tiny amounts of attachment(braiding hair) to your natural hair as you go along depending on the length you want. Basically, your hair is the starting point of the Knotless braids.

Personally, I feel Knotless braids are better as it’s less tension on your hair and scalp, but your braids can still be heavy depending on how much hair you use. Box braids do tend to be heavier and add more tension to your hair and scalp, I mean who hasn't struggled to decide on what side of your hair you should sleep on when you just get your braids done. Knotless braids do take longer than your average box braids but there is the question if they last longer than regular box braids. As Knotless braids start with your natural it may get rough easily than box braids. With Knotless braids, and depending on how you maintain it can last up to 4-6 weeks, unlike box braids which can last you 6-10 weeks or more, again depending on how to maintain it. Regardless both are protective styles for natural hair.

Which style do you prefer Box Braids or Knotless braids?
