Nigerian Hair: Shuku Hairstyle

Shuku hairstyle

The Shuku has placed a vital role in the Yoruba hairdressing community. It has been in existence for ages. The styling of the hair involves braiding the hair to form a hump on top of the head.

The Shuku hairstyle was made particularly for the Olori's (King's wives) at the King palace but overtime, the hairstyle became a style of hair fashion for women of all ages.

We have different types of Suku and they are Suku Onididi, Suku Sesema, Suku Elegbe, Suku na poi, Suku Ologede and the rest. Modern-day Suku Hair has been introduced which has really improved the hairstyle with hairstylist coming up with different ideas and ways to recreate the Suku.
