I
remember a job I had; the pay was so poor I could barely get by. In fact, my
parents had to send money every month to augment my living allowance. The first
few months were rough but after a while I made up my mind to save no matter how
little.
The first thing I did was to buy what we in Nigeria call,
"Kolo" which is known as Piggybank abroad. I bought two, I put one
underneath my bed in Lagos and the second underneath my grandma's bed in Ibadan
because I shuttled the two places often.
I made it a point of duty to randomly put N500 any day possible and
some days I put N1000. It was not easy by a long shot, but I found a way to
make it work.
Things are changing and we even have online piggybanks now, that
makes it easier for one to save. No matter how little, save for a rainy
day!
