Nigerian Food: Eating Healthy Nigerian Food; Plantain


Plantain is a starchy fruit that can be very sweet when ripe, this fruit is very nutritious and can be transformed into a variety of dishes.

The nutritional value of plantain includes carbohydrates, protein, vitamins, and many more. This delicious meal can easily be found in any Nigerian market or even your street store, it comes in a bunch and is sold at 400naira at least.


Plantain can be prepared under 30mins so there is no need to wait hours before you enjoy your meal. It can be prepared in whatever way you want, that is fried, boiled, or roasted. It is mostly enjoyed fried but that is not the healthiest way to consume it, boiling the plantain makes it more nutritious as it you consume fewer calories and more fibre this way.

This healthy dish can be enjoyed alone but to have a balanced diet you can have plantain with vegetables, beans, rice, or even eggs. So have a delicious meal with plantain, you can pack it as lunch to work tomorrow or have it as breakfast or dinner.
