Which Tv Show In The 70s and 80s Do You Miss?

Those who were born to witness Television shows in the 70s and 80s Nigeria are said to have been blessed with original TV content. Although television programs were not broadcasted 24/7, yet during the hours when it was broadcasted, quality content was shown.  Thanks to Nigeria Television Authority, NTA, which provided (sponsored)  a lot of Television shows that entertained, educated, and informed the audience. These television programs were loved by the public and I am sure you were one of those that enjoyed these contents, and you surely miss some of them. In this article, we go down memory lane where we mention a few TV shows in the 70s and 80s that we can remember, if you believe we missed some, you can add some in the comment section. 

I will mention only 4 Tv shows and when they began broadcasting. I might not mention the famous "Village Headmaster"(oh I just mention it!!) but I will like to shine the light on other Tv shows that held your mind during the day till you were able to watch them by 6pm in the 70s & 80s. Let's go!!. 


1)  Basi & Company: Basi and Company were one of the most loved TV shows during the 80s, it began to show on NTA in 1986 down to 1990 for about 4 years. B&C was a comedy-inclined show that ran for 30mins every day, it was an adaptation of the Basi & Company Novel is written by the respected late Ken Saro Wiwa.

The New Masquerade: This TV comedy-drama was one of the means that was sort after to unite Nigeria after the Nigerian Civil War, The New Masquerade began in the year 1983 and the curtains did not close till 1993 which was about 10 years. The Masquerade endeavoured the teach society ethics and morals which helped Nigeria grow one way or the other. The running time for the show was 30mins every Tuesday from 8:30pm all the way down to 9pm, those were interesting times.

Cock Crow At Dawn: when settled to watch this edutain drama the first thing you there is the Tv show theme song by Bongo zikiwe, which every viewer will remember with a smile on his or her face. Written by Peter Igaho, Cock Crow At Dawn was a Tv content that was created to build the audience interest in the agricultural aspect of the nation, and educational drama that also entertained the audience. The drama first aired in the year 1980, the ran for 30mins during a weekday, in the evening.


4) Mirror In The Sun:  Mirror In The Sun is one of those TV shows that endeavoured to show us that those in the middle and high class are not so different from those in the lower class. Written by the talented Lola Fani-Kayode Mirror in the Sun first aired in the year 1984 and ended in the year 1986. the show was broadcasted on NTA every Sunday for 30mins too. The cast and crew were good and I'm sure that the audience still remembers one or two that helped the show move.
